The panel discussed the case for increased engagement between Nigeria and Canada. There is need for increased bi-lateral trade relationship between both countries as Nigeria is Canada’s second largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa. Canada’s investment in Nigeria will continue to support the current administration’s goal of economic independence. The Ministerial Panel included Ministers in the Agriculture, Mining, Power, Works & Housing as well as Tax. All Ministers and Directors discussed the challenges and opportunities in the identified sectors as well as tax relief/incentives available for foreign direct investments.
ECONOMIC LANDSCAPE IN NIGERIA
The panel discussed the economic landscape of Nigeria and the opportunities of increased foreign direct investments from Canada. The panel included Ms. Monica Rovers, Mr. Ade Shonubi, the Deputy Governor of Operations at Central Bank Nigeria, Prof. Tony Bailetti from Carleton University and Prof. Toyin Ogundipe, the Vice-Chancellor at University of Lagos.

The Canadian panel were in the sectors of aviation, energy and financial technology. They discussed their current expertise in the identified sectors. Their expertise can enhance opportunities in these areas and increase Nigeria’s competitive landscape.
